Mr. Burns and Mr. Betz have known each other for over 20 years going back to the University of Toledo. Mr. Betz served as Student Body President.
Mr. Betz brings a dynamic personality and years of experience in the marketing field and is now based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Michael is a marketing executive and has worked with numerous brands throughout his 20-year professional career, including Goodyear Corp, Whole Foods Market, and Gannett Corp.
While at Gannett, Michael joined the Enquirer and Cincinnati.com’s staff in 2012, where he ran external relations, including marketing, communications, community, and government relations.
Michael has always been involved in numerous civic and community events. Michael is a board member of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, where he is Chair of their largest fundraiser, “Hats Off.” Michael is also a member of Leadership Cincinnati Class 45, named 40 under 40 from the Cincinnati Business Courier, as well as many other nonprofit and community-based organizations.
Michael brings a broad scope of experience and expertise to The Proper Group.
Lawrence J. Burns, a Detroit native, is a highly talented business consultant, executive and community leader with an esteemed career that has spanned over 40 years. His dedication to serving non-profits, higher education, healthcare and community foundations has enabled him to successfully impact numerous organizations.
Upon his return to his hometown in January 2017, Mr. Burns was appointed President and CEO of The Children’s Foundation and successfully directed its growth and presence in the region. The Foundation now boasts over 160 community-based and service-oriented partners.
Mr. Burns has also held notable roles in the education and healthcare sector which include; Vice President of Advancement at the University of Akron, President of the University of Akron Foundation, Vice President for External Affairs at the University of Toledo and the Director of Capital Campaigns for Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Mr. Burns was also President of the Medical University of Ohio Foundation and a leader in the Foundation’s involvement in real estate, intellectual property, clinical and retail initiatives.
Mr. Burns has gained recognition as a leader in the consulting and marketing sectors and is highly sought after as a speaker, mentor and advisor. He is frequently invited to speak at conferences and seminars on topics such as; marketing, operations, strategic planning, personal branding and cultivating leadership development. His expertise in marketing and operations, combined with his passion for optimizing efficiency and sustainability has enabled him to be successful in developing and implementing successful growth strategies.
Mr. Burns has been the host of popular radio programs such as “The Relevant University” and “Caring for Kids”. He has recently launched a podcast entitled “The Power of You”.
Mr. Burns is an alumni of Central Michigan University and an active member of numerous professional organizations.
